So… roughly two years ago this month we released our album The Chaser. Things were shut down but… that can’t last forever right? Dreams of tours and music festivals still danced in my head like happy little barflys cheering the band all night long. And then…well…we all know how the next couple of years went.
Nothing about making Gold Country/Country Gold felt conventional. I ended up engineering the album and recording process (with remote help from our Producer / Guitar God Tolan McNeil), co-producing with Tolan, going officially electric on most of it, and rewriting all of the lyrics to one of the songs on-site at a cabin in Gold Country only a few hours before I was slated to record the vocals.
This album is the story of all of us for the past couple of years. It’s also the story of my childhood. My family. My chosen family. The people I’ve loved. The world I want to live in. And the songs y’all. The songs. There are a number of tunes on this one written by friends, loved ones, and famous strangers. Because at the end of the day – it’s all about the music and how the music can make some magical moments that bring us together.
