BRANDY CLARK ROCKS GLASGOW

Brandy Clark the queen of songwriting has done it again! She took the audience to ultimate highs with her up-tempo numbers then brought her fans to a deathly silence with her heart wrenching and tear-jerking ballads. Brandy’s voice will grip your heart and control your emotions while bringing a range of sensations to the surface.

Brandy headlined the sold-out show on Saturday, the 1st of February in Glasgow to a crowd of enthusiastic “Repeat Offenders”. I have not seen a group of people show so much love for one person! That evening she was joined by the quirky and energetic Heather Rankin, previous from The Rankin Family and to kick off the evening was a new talent from Kentucky, Ian Noe.

Brandy kicked off with an upbeat anthem of Girl Next Door. The best song to get the fans into a party mood and singing along. The lyrics most people can relate to in some way and Brandy’s slight tongue and cheek regarding what men want and what they settle for.

Brandy has come a long way from starting as just a songwriter in Nashville’s music scene to the confident amazing performer of today.  You can tell she had as much fun as her fans with her enthusiasm, the smiles she shared with her band members, and the interaction with the audience. Keen to point out people wearing merchandise with lyrical hooks of songs she was going to perform.

As the set progressed, she told stories about the songs as well as, how much she appreciated her fans and how much she loves Glasgow. The honesty expressed through her stories and feelings towards her fans was heartfelt and pure. It would be hard for anyone not to be caught up in her words and emotions.

She truly showed off her talents by playing with the full band which consisted of a bass player Ashleigh Caudill, lead guitarist Bill Adamson – (also plays with Ward Thomas), drummer Danny Young and cellist Kaitlyn Raitz. The band may have been a make-shift group of musicians, but they gelled together and performed liked they were had been playing together for years. Brandy told an amazing story about how she had only met her lead guitarist and bass player for the first time a few days ago in Oslo. From sets with just the string instruments to her acoustic performance, she kept you wanting more.

The most iconic moment of the evening was during the encore when she played “I’ll Be the Sad Song” for the first time live. It was like a switched and been flipped. The noise dropped to and eerie silence and all you could hear was Brandy’s emotional words floating around room. With watery eyes, she was unable to hide the emotions of such a powerful touching song.

As she said on her LA live album, she will never leave her fans on a low. To follow her own words, she asked the audience if they wanted a song that inspired her to write or a song she wrote? The fans had spoken, and they wanted to hear a Brandy original. She left us with “What’ll Keep Me Out of Heaven”.

Once again, she left us on a high and always wanting more!!
