When you think of country music you imagine sad songs, drinking songs, heartbreak, and most of all songs that tell a story. Brandy’s current tour has it all, she is the true storyteller with songs that will make you cry and others that will have you singing at the top of your voice. As Brandy said, “if you can’t sing well, then sing loud.”
I was able to see her at three different venues during her tour of the UK and each show had something different. Brandy mixed up the songs and improvised during each show, leaving the audience wondering what was coming next.
During two of the shows, the audience was silent and listened intently to the songs and stories she had to tell about the grandmother who influenced her through her storytelling and the experiences of writing songs with different people. The audience was captivated by her and hung on every word where a few fans would get up and dance while cheering and singing every song. At times you could hear a pin drop, and on one occasion someone’s walkie-talkie could be heard loud and clear.
I loved the stories about the threats her mother made when Brandy and her brother were younger. She would always say “if you misbehave we are not going to Disneyland.” As the artist recalled they never ever made that trip. Disneyland to Brandy was the day she got a call from a musician that was working with Reba and he told her that she had just recorded one of her songs. She recalled she was sitting at a set of traffic lights and just cried. The emotions overflowing and even though the tears represented the happiness and joy she felt this was her Disneyland.
If you’ve never seen Brandy Clark in concert, I highly recommend adding her to your must-see live in person music bucket list. For more on Brandy and if she’s touring in a town near you, check out https://www.brandyclarkmusic.com/
