Spotlight Artist Eileen Carey

How would you describe your sound to a first-time listener?

EC: I would describe my sound as West Coast Pop-Country. It is positive, accessible and catchy. I am a storyteller in my sound and lyrics.

If you could only point a listener to one of your songs, which would it be?

EC:  I really love my new release “Land with You”. I think I have grown as a songwriter, and my recent releases have been rewarding. In the past I would have answered the song “Faith”, but I really like where I am headed.

How long have you been making music?

EC: I have always been into music. I fooled around with drums some, but sang in many school and church productions growing up. I have released four albums and 13 single releases since taking it for a career back in 2004. It has always been a part of me and who I am.

What first inspired you to pursue music?

EC: Years back, I was booking entertainment for a large hotel chain, and then realized I could sing and write songs. I was here in Los Angeles to work in the film industry, but I couldn’t ignore my love of music over all things. It has been my heart’s compass since I started.

What do you want your listeners to get out of your music?

EC: I try to give people a different way of thinking, a view that offers them alternatives, support, and encouragement. We all have our trials, but I’m 100% convinced we can overcome them by maintaining the right attitude in life.

I want people to see the positives in life. Music is magic because it is the closest thing to our hearts and souls. My music is all about making lemonade out of lemons.

What are you currently working on?

Recently I have been working on releasing my new single debuting this Valentine’s Day, called “Land with You,” while my longtime video partner Taner Tumkaya and I are in the process of creating the video for the song. Taner lives in Berlin, Germany, so we do a lot long distance work. I am also working on 5 new songs with my longtime producer Travis Allen in Nashville. We will be recording them together this spring and I am so excited for my listers to hear what we have in the works!

Also, on the 24th of this month I will be sharing the stage with one of my favorite singer-songwriters, Martha Davis and The Motels at the Canyon Montclair. Additionally, on June 16 I will be back at the Canyon Montclair with Pure Prairie League. I do a lot of fairs in the summer and currently booking them as I do each year. Also in discussion with a new club out in Venice Beach.

Give us some musical sheroes in your life…

EC:  I love this question because women are such trailblazers in the music space.  Women such as Diane Warren, Cheryl Crowe, Martha Davis, Chrissie Hynde, and Patsy Cline have been huge inspirations to me.

Where do you find inspiration as a songwriter?

EC: Everywhere. I am a storyteller. For instance, the song “Meet Me Halfway” was sparked by my observation I had of a person so engrossed on their cell phone that they almost got hit by a car while crossing the street. It dawned on me that we are so self-centered that we can hardly pay attention to each other. I think that is a big part of the world’s problems these days.

We have to know all about your latest single

EC: It is a song, Lily Wilson and I wrote, about how girls often dream about what they want in the future, and with who they would want it with. In this case, the protagonist is so thrilled that her dreams have come true. It is an inspirational song. You have to dream to have dreams come true.
